EDUCATING THE WHOLE CHILD

Golden Hill Steiner School offers an holistic program of learning, which integrates academic, artistic, social and spiritual aspects into an educational pathway designed to foster –

  • individual capability
  • confident participation and
  • a life-long love of learning

We are a non-denominational school, guided and supported by the Steiner Education of Australia (SEA), to create a developmentally appropriate approach to curriculum, resources, and teaching practice.  Historically focused on the Primary School years, we are excited to announce that we have expanded to become a High School.  In 2023 we have our very first Class 7 students, followed by a Class 8 in 2024, a Class 9 in 2025 and a Class 10 in 2026.

Purpose

We seek to nurture and guide your child’s potential to become a successful life-long learner; a confident and creative individual, and an active, informed and responsible participant in their community.  Our educational program is fully integrated in its approach.  Literacy, numeracy, and creativity are all linked within the curriculum.  Our aim is to instil your child with a heartfelt desire to participate, to strive and to learn.  A varied program of educational activity is consciously planned, and reflexively implemented, to keep your children engaged, nourished and inspired during these golden years of childhood.

Substance

A Steiner child’s educational pathway is based on a deep understanding of human development.  Each stage of their learning has been designed to reflect and enhance their natural developmental progress. Until the age of seven, we consider self-directed play to be an essential foundation for the later development of intellectual thinking.  From seven until fourteen, stronger intellectual capacities begin to manifest, but not fully.  It is important at this stage to engage and develop the child’s learning, maintaining a strong emphasis on imaginative, artistic and physical activity.

Content

Our rich and purposeful curriculum is designed, at every stage, to nurture confidence and proficiency in academic, artistic and physical pursuits.  The foundations are laid in kindergarten, through the spacious provision of imaginative play and problem-solving opportunities.  The focus is on a teaching of natural rhythm and oral language and the developing of manual dexterity through handcraft. Young children learn through the imitation of their teacher.

This changes at age seven when they are ready for formal learning.  Through the primary and high school years, your child’s thinking and intellectual capabilities develop.  We support this through a curriculum of numeracy, literacy, geometry, foreign language, science, nature study, ancient history, music, geography woodwork and biodynamic gardening.
